Database cloud is cloud-based approach to the storage and management of structured data. This is the Enterprise Edition - General Purpose - Non-metered - Hosted Environment option. This is an enterprise grade infrastructure service that provides a rapidly provisioned virtual compute environment to easily migrate workloads and run them at scale with predictable, consistent performance, control and visibility.
General purpose Shape is 2,25 OCPU / 1.8 Gb. Enterprise package includes the Oracle Database Enterprise Edition.

Exadata Express Cloud Service

You get one Oracle Database Enterprise Edition plus options, running on Exadata engineered systems, with Oracle Net (SQL*Net) connectivity. Developer benefits include a standard SQL interface, RESTful Web Services, documents & collections interfaces, drivers for popular programming languages, integrated Application Express and a range of client tools and IDEs. Exadata Express is a great fit for running departmental applications, hosting dev & test databases or experimenting the newest Oracle Database release.
Database Cloud Service
The database cloud service offers a fully configured virtual machine with an Oracle 11g or 12c database pre-installed. Enterprise options such as RAC, In-memory, Active DataGuard and Goldengate replication are available during provisioning. Complete control of the VM, including super user access is provided. Provisioning with any of the available options is a simple, guided, 5 step process. A comprehensive RESTful API is provided to enable devops automation through scripted, repeatable provisioning methods. Maintenance is simplified with automated tooling for backups, patching etc. Ideal for lift and shift migration of on-prem 11g or 12c workloads, dev/test or simply Cloud DR.

What versions of database instances can I provision with Database Cloud Service?
Currently 11g and 12c instances are supported.
How do I enable various database options within my instance?
Database options are pre-bundled as levels of service such as Standard Edition, Enterprise Edition, High Performance and Extreme Performance. For example, partitioning, multi-tenant and advance compression are included in High Performance whereas In-memory and RAC are bundled in Extreme Performance.
How do I access my instance once it is provisioned?
Using the ssh keys generated at the time of provisioning a database instance.
How do I backup my database?
The database cloud service provides options to backup your database to Oracle’s storage cloud automatically with periodic incremental and full backups in line with Oracle’s best practices.
How do I patch or upgrade my database?
The Database Cloud Service console provides automated tooling to patch/upgrade your database through a few easy clicks.
How do I move an on-premise 11g or 12c database into an Oracle DBCS instance?
You can migrate your on-premises Oracle database to an Oracle Database Cloud Service using a number of different methods based on the version of your on-premise database. For example, you may simply unplug and plug your 12c pluggable database from on-prem to cloud or backup your database directly to Oracle’s storage cloud service followed by an ibackup restore in the cloud.
I have a large multi-terabyte database that I would like to move into Oracle Cloud. How do I move such a large volume of data into Oracle’s cloud?
Customers may backup their databases directly to Oracle Cloud over a secure network. Additionally, backups may be encrypted. For faster transfers, Oracle also offers FastConnect through its partner Equinix. Once backups are transferred, databases can be instantiated using the DBCS iBackup feature.
How can I determine the right instance size for my initial deployment?
A good starting point is to pick an instance size that closely matches your on-premise hardware. Oracle DBCS instances come in various shapes of OCPU and memory. An OCPU provides CPU capacity equivalent of one physical core of an Intel Xeon processor with hyper threading enabled. Each OCPU corresponds to two hardware execution threads, known as vCPUs.
How do I receive support for my databases?
By creating service requests similar to your on-premise Oracle database support.
Is there any additional charge for support besides my subscription fee?
No, support is included with the subscription fees.
What is Oracle’s maintenance schedule? Will I be notified of planned downtime?
Oracle publishes its maintenance schedule on its customer facing support portal. Currently, maintenance on its platform services are scheduled on the 1st, 2nd or 3rd Friday of each month. Customer are notified 7 days in advance, at the time of service and finally when the service is completed.
Will my database VM share server resources with other VMs or customers?
Oracle provides shared and dedicated compute zones to match your business needs. Dedicated zones may be reserved through your Oracle sales account team.
How do I configure DR for my business critical production applications?
Oracle database Cloud Service provides automated provisioning for high availability options such as Oracle RAC and Disaster Recovery options such as DataGuard and GoldenGate replication.
Can I use an Oracle DBCS instance as DR for an on-premise database?
Yes, a DBCS instance can be configured to serve as a DR instance for your on-premise database..
Does Oracle provide a performance guarantee or SLA for my database instance?
Oracle will use commercially reasonable efforts to make Oracle Database Cloud Service available with a Monthly Uptime Percentage of at least 99.95% during any month of the Services Period (the “Service Commitment”).
Is my data secure? What security features are provided by the service?
Oracle DBCS provides tablespace encryption by default for all service levels including Standard Edition. Encryption keys remain with customers, ideally on their premises.
Can I use my on-premise monitoring infrastructure to monitor cloud databases?
Yes, an on-premise monitoring tool such as Oracle’s Enterprise Manager Cloud Control can be used to manage and monitor both on-premise and cloud databases thereby providing a ‘single pane of glass’ view for your entire database infrastructure.
How can a devops user benefit from using Oracle DBCS?
Oracle DBCS provides database snapshot and cloning features along with compute orchestration that makes provisioning of application and database (full stack) easy for devops professionals. Besides, integration with Oracle’s Developer Cloud Service enables version control of database code and Continuous Integration at the database tier.
Can I install 3rd party software on DBCS virtual machines?
Yes, the user has complete control of the VM and can install 3 rd party software. However, Oracle cannot provide support in case of issues with such software.
Can I scale my instance both horizontally and vertically?
Yes. Existing DBCS instances may scale up to bigger shapes in OCPU, Memory and Storage for vertical scaling. For horizontal scaling, DBCS provides RAC with the Extreme Performance option currently allowing applications to scale up to 2 nodes, each with a max of 16 OCPU shapes.
How do I scale storage beyond the initial allocation?
The DBCS Console provides capability to expand an existing storage volume or add up to 10 storage volumes to an existing DBCS instance without incurring downtime.
What are the billing options for my database service?
Database instances may be billed hourly or monthly based on the billing frequency chosen at the time of deployment.
What is the difference between metered and non-metered instances?
Metered instances are billed hourly whereas non-metered instances are billed monthly at a fixed rate irrespective of usage hours during that period.
Is RAC supported in any of the database services?
Yes, Oracle RAC is supported and can be automatically provisioned as part of the Extreme Performance bundle.
What is the advantage of database PaaS over BYOL to IaaS?
